A380 Wing Booms

CATEGORIES: Aeronautics
YEAR: 2011
COUNTRY: España
MODEL: A380

PROJECT DETAILS

  • Client: AIRBUS MILITARY, CT Engineers
  • Date: 2012
  • Technologies: Wing Booms resizing – Fatigue and Damage Tolerance

DESCRIPTION

ICEMM carried out a resizing analysis of the A380 wing booms. This resizing was carried out to correct the cracks that appeared in the ‘Booms’ as a consequence of the existence of additional stresses derived from the manufacturing and assembly process.

A380 Wing Booms Cracks

ACTIVITIES

  • Resizing of booms according to fatigue and damage tolerance requirements
  • Finite element detail models of wing ribs (PATRAN/NASTRAN)
  • Material definition: Boom (aluminium) and web (CFRP)
  • Calculation of out-of-plane rib displacements (Global FEM)
  • Rib strength and stability analysis
  • Analytical calculations:
    • Static checks and joint analysis
    • Stiffener buckling analysis
    • Rivet buckling analysis
  • Documentation
